hearts to haiti

It's been over two weeks now since the earthquake in Haiti, and although the news is still going strong about the tragedy, it's easy for the urgency to slip slowly from our minds as time goes by. I know that at least that's unfortunately true for me...so to keep up the awareness that is much needed, and remind us that they still need help - here are some awesome ways to do just that:

• JEDIDIAH CLOTHING :: Haiti Relief Tee •
100% of Proceeds to Compassion International

I'm proud to be part of a company who is constantly working to give back to worthy humanitarian causes around the world. Each season we work with a different group and 5% of that season's sales goes back to help that cause. We had already planned to work with Compassion International's Haiti project for our Fall '10 line, and now it's coming at an even more relevant time. Take a look at this video with images from a Jedidiah trip to Haiti in October '09

• FRETTO PRINTS :: "Help Haiti Rise" Tee •
BUY ONLINE $15
100% Prodeeds to Partners in Health

Our good friend Mike Fretto recently started a screen-printing business and has been non-stop cranking out these amazing tees for Partners in Health and their Haiti relief efforts. They've sold over 1,000 tees so far and have set a goal to sent at least $20,000 to Haiti! Help them do it.

Also, if you're looking for a super easy way to donate money, there are several organizations taking payments by text. Here's a list:

Text DISASTER to 90999 to donate $10 to Compassion International
Text OXFAM to 25383 to donate $10 to Oxfam International
Text HABITAT to 25383 to donate $10 to Habitat for Humanity
Text GIVE to 25383 to donate $10 to Partners in Health
Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross
Text HAITI to 864833 to donate $5 to The United Way
Text SAVE to 20222 to donate $10 to Save the Children

Whatever you do, don't forget, and I already know of some people heading down to physically help in the efforts - so there are groups you can get involved in this way as well. <3

last week :: florida. films. friends.

This past week was a work whirlwind...super fun but I've been enjoying the rest since getting back home yesterday. Last Sunday started out with a small screening tour around Florida for the surf documentary Jedidiah made when we were in Bangladesh (Oct 08). It's been a while since I mentioned that trip or anything about the film on here, but the talented filmmaker and our good friend, Russell Brownley put it together and it's been doing really well at recent film festivals. The response in general to the film and the story has been overwhelming and Fuel TV picked it up and will be airing it soon.

Mainly it's about the humanitarian group, Surfing the Nations (who I went over to work with) and the work they've done helping to set up a surf club that serves almost as a boys & girls club...but the impact on the kids lives over there is so great in so many ways that it's hard to even explain, yet the film really ends up putting words and images to it in an amazing way.

We stopped at a few places in Florida for screenings before heading to Orlando for the Surf Expo tradeshow for the last few days of the week. Mainly summed up as non-stop, junk-food filled, set-up/tear-down, fist pumps, appointments, music, art, work, clothes, long days, good people. More about this later...

For now, here's the trailer for the film "GUM FOR MY BOAT :: Surfing in Bangladesh". Click HERE to view online
